Talk about when minutes or even when seconds count… we’ll Dr Salzer saved my sons life in his office!! It was right on the cusp of when Covid was a thing. My son was at college about an hour away and he is a local volunteer firefighter. For about several weeks his throat had been bothering him so he went to the campus clinic only for them to give basic antibiotics and send him on his way saying he probably had a throat infection. A week later he didn’t feel any better and maybe a little worse so he went to a local hospital walk-in-clinic. They thought he had strep gave him stronger antibiotics and sent him on his way. Well, we get a call at 2:00 am from our son saying he can’t swallow and it’s hard to breathe and he asked us to come pick him up. We came and went straight to the ER. They increased the antibiotics and put him on a steroid. Followed up with Dr Salzer as first appt in am. My husband took my son. I had a bad feeling so I had my son pack a bag and told my husband to make sure dr Salzer scoped him. I was on FaceTime during the appointment. Before I could say anything the fist thing Dr Salzer did after reading my sons chart was scope him. He calmly got up from his chair and talked to his nurse with him wanting us to listen. The instructions were for her to call the ER state a young male coming in (….) with possibly tracheotomy and intubation he also listed off multiple medications that I have never heard of! He instructed us to immediately go to the ER (we could settle the bill later as this was an emergency!) He said our son needed life saving medical attention because his throat was 90% closure due to a bacterial infection called Epiglottitis (an infection normally little children get or can get from smoke inhalation my son most likely got training at the smoke house for firefighters) Dr Salzer ordered the ER team to get the high dose of steroids and the multiple antibiotics and and special saline solution to be run as fast as possible. Nurses were literally squeezing the bags of medicine! If it weren’t for Dr Salzer and his immediate correct diagnosis and swift action not only saved my son from not needing to intubated but saved his life! The story doesn’t end here… Dr Salzer himself almost lost his life shortly after this while my son was recovering in the hospital Dr Salzer was on his way to volunteer in Maine at a medical clinic (as he does several weekends a month) where he belongs to a running club (Dr Salzer is an avid runner). He didn’t feel right so he and his wife agreed he shouldn’t go on the flight and good thing., he had Covid and was in the ICU for several weeks reminding himself to breath and stay alive and God was with him because he also at the same time had lymes while fighting Covid! The staff was wonderful when my son came home to finish recuperating. Even with Dr. Salazar being so very ill himself, he made sure to give orders to the Dr in charge to release my son a soon as the swelling was down and his breathing was good and he no longer need to be on IV meds. He wanted him to recuperate at home so he wouldn’t be around a Covid environment and catch Covid on top of having Epiglottis! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking care of our son (saving his life) taking care of our family, and helping me as well! We are so very thankful for your own recovery! Prayers were answered all around 🙏🏼
Dr Salzer is one of the smartest, kindest, and most thorough doctors I have ever visited. I have sent my family to him for years, and they have been thoroughly happy with their care as well. Recently, I developed an issue that required surgery. Dr. Salzer and his team (thanks Lynn!) made the entire process seamless and as easy as I could have ever hoped. I scheduled my post-op visits at both the Greenwich and Stamford offices, since both are convenient for me, and they were both very comfortable and friendly. I truly look forward to my weekly visits. Whenever I mention that Dr Salzer is my surgeon, nurses and doctors universally exclaim that he is the best. I will continue to recommend Dr. Salzer wholeheartedly.
Dr. Salzer has been our family doctor, treating my entire family, for over 18 years. He is incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated to providing the BEST care to his patients. His staff is equally dedicated and excellent. Dr. Salzer is a brilliant doctor and our first call when anything concerns us. It is obvious that he loves being a doctor and cares deeply about all who he treats. He is thorough and is not rushed when meeting with a patient. I would not thinking of going to anyone else. I know that my family and I are under the best care when we see Dr. Salzer!
