I am rating the Subacute Rehab Unit. At first the size of the unit and the long corridors put me off, but I soon realized that they were important tools for rehab. Within a few days my Significant Other (SO) was propelling himself to and from the dining room and being carefully walked to the PT and OT gyms. The gyms are in alcoves on the unit, so there is a lot of upbeat activity and resident traffic in the corridors. The food did not look very appealing to me, but my "patient" liked it and gained weight. He enjoyed meeting other residents in the dining room and was sad when some of them were discharged. The staff was uniformly friendly, skilled and supportive. The rehab program for my SO was well planned, geared realistically to post-discharge function. The nursing staff supported the rehab goals by encouraging the residents to do as much as they could for themselves. My SO was able to emerge stronger and without the Foley catheter that had been in place for 3 months. A special shout out to Social Worker Meghan, who goes the extra mile, Eva, the Unit Coordinator who is a natural therapist and Susama (Sam) who provided such good care for my SO when he was weakest, most symptomatic and possibly most irritating. I subtracted 1 star for an issue that afflicts all rehabs that I have seen: too long a wait for the call bells to be answered.
I came to United Hebrew and found my mother at the Juneteenth Celebration. The singer, James Ramsey, was phenomenal! I was late, and quietly went to sit on the floor next to my mom. Someone working there quickly ran over and had a chair ready for me. The four workers in the room were incredible! A big shout out to them! I believe I may have been the only visitor in there at the time (but may be wrong) and wanted to share what I saw. The workers (I wish I knew their names) were dancing with the patients both standing and in wheelchairs! The joy and happiness in the room was incredible! It brought tears to my eyes! You could feel how genuinely loved the patients felt! James did a fantastic job. What an amazing singer! Thank you to the workers for their hard work and dedication. Our family is forever grateful for your kindness, hard work and LOVE you show to the people living there everyday. You worked on a Federal Holiday and made their day very special......thank you, thank you!!
Our father initially was a rehab patient at the United Hebrew Home and has since transitioned to being a nursing home resident. We are so incredibly grateful for the wonderful care that he is receiving. He is always clean, well-fed, engaged and receives excellent medical care. There is amazing teamwork amongst the staff and we really appreciate how everyone does their part to make sure that all aspects of his care are met. We cannot thank United Hebrew home enough.
I have very high praise for the good people at UnitedHebrew who took care of my mother for several years. The nursing staff was excellent, and my mother regularly lauded their efforts. It's not easy taking care of an old broken-down body, but the nurses realized that, especially early on, her mind was not broken down. They took great care of her.
My resident in the nursing home is thriving, as opposed to being at home. She likes being alone, but also interacts very well with the aides. The psychologist she sees occasionally there is VERY interested and helpful. The doctor has adjusted her medications very successfully. I am very pleased with her care, and she is more content than I have seen her in many years. Thank you, UHGC!
