Amalgamated Nursery School

I loved this school when my daughter attended it. My daughter was in their Little Hands program, 3k program , summer camp then pre-k. It is the best community school, it gave comforting feeling to know that few of the teachers were also from the Amalgamated coop community. Kids did many science and art projects , were taught alphabet, colors, basic writing and numbers. Teachers believed in kids spending time outdoors ( fenced in playground across from the school) and having field trips to Van Cortlandt park to learn about nature. School had many volunteering opportunities for parents to be involved with school, to help raise funds and brings community together. I love this school and would not have hesitated to enroll more of my future kids in this school.

Dear Vilmarie, I'm an immigrant, in the US for only a decade and live OUTSIDE of the Amalgamated Coop housing area. After not even a full school year of my son's attendance, I was approached to Co-chair the Executive Parent Board. I knew no-one at that time but showed interest in helping out and in my son's education... This is a parent-run cooperative-based school and as such, I am part of a body that makes decisions on budget, spending, fundraising, teacher hiring and even a director position that we voted on last year and won... It's a small school and I see the impact of my decisions directly. This is what you call "controlled by a tight knit group"???
Also, I know everyone at the school by now and I'm pretty sure I know the teacher you are talking about. She's the head teacher in my son's current class, how funny!
She has a strong voice, no doubt, but she treats all of her students (current and former) with the same level of respect and THEY LOVE HER! She's very energetic and does a lot of hands on projects and even local trips with them... If she grabbed someone, there must have been a good reason for sure, lol! (Like we never EVER grab our own children to avoid them being hurt and such, right?) I absolutely trust her and all the other teachers at the school!
I previously had my kids at Mosholu Montefiore school and Kingsbridge Montessori School and this one is by far better in all aspects. After 3 years of moving through Amalgamated nursery school grades and my daily interactions with staff, my kids and my family couldn't have been happier!

Amalgamated nursery school is the best school my son has been to. My son learned a lot and is extremely smart because of this school. I couldn't believe he scored 99% on the gifted and talented test and It is because of the curriculum of the school and the teachers. Every single teacher in the school is amazing and I wish the school went to 5th grade. They care about our community and love every single child that walks through the door. I'm so sad to leave the school and that is only because my son is going to kindergarten otherwise we would be in the school forever. Thank you for all you do and the love and support you gave my son.

Great school. People who run and work at this school love children. This is an amazing play where they allow children to grow and explore. Hands on activities throughout the day and the teacher’s encourage the kids think outside the box . Our family loves this place !
