I just want to let you know how much Harmony has impacted me since I arrived on September 2016. I am in 10th grade and I plan on graduating from Harmony.
Harmony is not only a school, it is also a family. The staff are amazing and so, so supportive. The day school is from 9-3:15. We take vans over and have classes. The teachers are so supportive and extremely helpful if you are struggling or need extra help, they will do anything to help you. Last year before the living environment regents, my science teacher helped me every single day until the regent during her prep period. This helped me not only academically but also helped me have the confidence in myself and have the confidence to take the test. If you are struggling in class the teachers understand and try to help you in the best way possible. The therapists are amazing and are so supportive and encouraging. Kelle, my therapist, will do anything to help me, if that means taking me on walks or playing basketball, they will do anything to make sure you are okay and if you are struggling they will do anything to help relieve the anxiety.
The residence is extremely supportive and a wonderful environment. There are activities every half hour. ( music share, friendship bracelet, bingo, dance, walk in to town, karaoke, nature walk and so much more.) The staff at the residence are amazing. The GLC’s ( group life counselors) are so loving and the amount they care about each and every kid is truly amazing! They will do anything in their power to help you. Sharon and Alli are
so so amazing whenever I am struggling and need help they are there to talk and calm me down. They will sit with me until I am calm and my anxiety has died down. They will also play Taylor Swift (who I love!) which helps me tremendously. Tracey is so caring and will literally do anything to help you. She makes sure that every single resident is okay and is extremely outgoing and fun.
Lori is always willing to go the extra step to help you and is extremely honest.
Sam, Alex, and Sarah are amazing and so so fun to be around. They dance and are easy going and will do anything to help you succeed. Not only are the GLC’s there for support but they also have fun with everyone and are just so amazing.
Michele, the residential director, rocks the residence and the nurses are so supportive and are there 24/7. I also have a kitchen job and I get to work with the most amazing chef and learn a lot of life skills while working in the kitchen.
Since being at Harmony I have gone to school and my self confidence had increased and I have learned that it is okay to not be okay. It is okay to ask for help it does not mean that you are week. I’ve learned that bad days don’t last forever and that It is okay to struggle. I promise if you give Harmony a chance, it will be well worth it. Good luck!
harmony heights is a therapeutic school for girls who have trouble going through their daily lives. again, a therapeutic school. it won’t be the same as a normal, district school because you’re not in a right state of mind and normal work will overwhelm you. this place is supposed to help you get back on your feet and give you what you need in order to live your life as smoothly as possible. you get a therapist, a group therapist, and every class has a teacher assistant, other than the official teacher. you have the ability to take “outs” whenever you feel overwhelmed. you’ll be well taken care of, and supported. some days, will be hard. and you’re going to hate it but the school has really helped me a lot. you have to give the school a chance, follow the program, and allow yourself to get better. don’t judge the school by some half-thought reviews that are written in a moment of anger or disappointment. if anything, tour the school and see for yourself.
Harmony Heights truly saved my life. I had been dealing with school phobia, depression, and severe social anxiety for most of my life, and had been out of school for two-and-a-half years when I entered Harmony Heights. I had tried a number of other schools, but none had worked out--I was looked at as obstinate and stubborn, rather than fearful and depressed. I had been made to feel as if there was something wrong with me for being different.
At Harmony Heights, I was treated as an individual. My therapist and the school staff worked with me to get me back to school in a way that fit my needs and didn't overwhelm me. They supported my family and helped them to understand what I was dealing with, which was a huge change for me and made a tremendous difference. From therapists to teachers to administrative staff, I was treated with such kindness, caring, sensitivity, and warmth. Even staff members who didn't know me very well cheered my victories and encouraged me as I gradually became able to attend school full-time. Their pride when I actually won a perfect attendance award touched me deeply.
I also felt a great deal of encouragement from my peers--knowing that the other students were there just like me because they also had their own struggles was a great leveling factor. It gave girls who may have appeared to be complete opposites the ability to find common ground and even friendships where they might not have in another environment. Harmony is truly a family, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have made some of my closest friendships there.
In addition to those friendships, I have also carried with me the tools, skills, and coping mechanisms I was taught at Harmony, which I've been able to apply to other challenges I've faced in my adult life. And finally, I feel strongly that the education I received at Harmony gave me a solid grounding for the future--I was able to go on to receive my Bachelor's degree on a full academic scholarship and graduate summa cum laude, and I credit the quality teachers at Harmony with preparing me to face the challenges of higher education and to thrive. I will never stop counting my blessings for having had the opportunity to attend Harmony Heights, and will always have immeasurable gratitude to their amazing staff for helping me to be the person I am today.
Coming to Harmony was the best decision i've ever made. The staff are amazing and care about you so much. all the staff know your name and it's an amazing environment to thrive in. the shyest girls can come out of their shells and really do great here. I started Harmony in my junior year and i wish i knew about this school before then. The one thing that people don't realize is that you have to put in the work to get better here. and the girls who don't care about their mental health are the ones that hate it. the therapists are amazing and they're always available to talk to you or even to just give you a hug. the teachers are amazing and really accommodate the learning to your specific needs. The friends i've made at harmony are so special and i know i will be friends with them forever. There are such terrible reviews of harmony but those are by the students who leave because they don't put in work to get better. Harmony is such a safe environment. when i first heard about it i was so against the weekly individual and group therapy but it is actually amazing because you just hangout with the hilarious and awesome therapist and just talk and it's such a accepting community. All the students are so open about their problems so you really can get closer with these harmony people then you could get to regular district people. I love harmony and I think if you have to the opportunity you should come to. i know i wasn't the most open person before harmony and i never told anybody about my depression and anxiety but coming to harmony just changed the way i view myself and i'm such a different person because of it.
