Small park with a few walking trails. The top of the monument is better viewed from outside.
Grew up in Spuyten Duyvil so my parent's showed it to me for the first time. Always liked it. Very peaceful, clean, & not many people there all at the same time. Nice to go sit, & let your thoughts out alone. Nice to go, & take my parent's dog out over there now as well.
Henry Hudson Park is a bastion of serenity in Western Riverdale. A brilliant move ( seriously) by city planners (I'm not joking) placed a playground across the street, instead of attached. This leaves HHP clean, quiet and, well, just a beautiful place to sit, talk, read a paper or all of the above.
I am biased because I live very close to this park, but Henry Hudson Park is lovely and spacious. There are some dedicated people who I believe do their best to keep this park beautiful in the spring, summer, and fall. This winter, the central hill was utilized for a lot of sledding because of all the snow in February 2021. Sadly, earlier in the summer of 2020, Hurricane Isaias was responsible for laying waste on several ancient trees in the park. But there are many more to enjoy. A word of warning, I did stumble upon a huge patch of poison ivy in the northwest corner of the park along the main trail. While it didn't pose an immediate threat, this park is dog friendly, and if a dog accidentally wades through the brush on the side of the path where it is, it is possible they could roll around in it. I called 311 and reported it, they closed the ticket, but I think it was still there.
Lovely short walk. The park is split in two parts. We had to cross the street to see half of the park. Beautiful greenery.
