Sharon Pacuk has been working with our son for nearly a year and we cannot recommend her more highly.
When we met her in April of 2021, our son was a 6 1/2 year old boy who had been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and a learning disability in reading and written expression the month before. She had an immediate impact on not only our son but our entire family. She is smart, kind, engaging, empathetic, and truly gets to know her students. Our son could not read when she met him and he immediately began learning how to blend sounds into words and soon progressed to reading sentences and books. He continues to make consistent progress and he LOVES reading!
Sharon’s efforts with our son have impacted our lives far more than any other service or therapy he has had since his diagnosis. Our son was struggling in many ways for a long time when we first came to her. He is very smart but had not been taught how to read in a way that he could learn. He wanted to learn and share but did not know how until he met Sharon. Our son has developed a strong connection with her and has gained so much confidence in his reading and writing.
Not only has Sharon taught our son how to read but she has also been a sounding board for my husband and I as we had our first IEP meeting and have navigated services, therapies, and plans for our son. We are so grateful for all she has taught our son and for her continued support to us. We strongly recommend Sharon to anyone looking for reading help for their child.

Sharon was recommended to us by our son's speech pathologist within the NYC school system due to on-going literacy issues. She quickly put us at ease as she spoke about her experience helping students with similar issues. She told us her goal was to get him to the point he no longer needed her support, which is a testament to her approach.
Sharon doesn't simply address the problem, she teaches the whole student and rapidly developed a relationship with our son built on mutual trust and respect. He looked forward to his "homework" from her and we quickly saw the impact of their sessions together.
Throughout the 3+ years we have known Sharon, she has been not only a valuable member of our son's education team, but a tremendous resource for us as parents. She helped guide us through revisions to his IEP and has been willing to jump on the phone and discuss reports cards or concerns. Sharon helped to turn a child that was falling behind in literacy into a lover of books. She gifted him a book that ignited his passion for the realm of Science Fiction and interest in Magic. Even during the pandemic, she would swing by and drop off new books to keep him motivated.
I attribute a large part of our son's academic growth to her involvement in our journey. Any student and parent would be lucky to have Sharon on their team.
Sharon has been working with my son tutoring him in reading. She is incredibly patient, supportive, and creative. They’ve only been able to work virtually, but she engages him completely and they’ve made great progress together. Sharon even mails him prizes. We’ve worked with a few tutors and no one else has gone to the lengths that Sharon has to support our son. We are very grateful to Sharon.
Sharon is truly the best of the best - bar-none. I will be forever grateful that our paths crossed when our sons befriended one another while attending Redhook Playgroup. She quickly became a good friend and fellow mom who I could count on as our boys grew and we navigated motherhood. Later, when my son entered public school kindergarten and exhibited signs of special learning needs and distress I called on Sharon for her professional advice and services. As a prior DOE employed Speech Therapist, Sharon had the background to provide reliable counsel that proved pertinent as our son was evaluated and subsequently assigned an IEP. While we waited on the several month long evaluation and IEP assignment from the DOE we opted to initiate our own private intervention. We felt strongly that early intervention was key to our son accessing the curriculum and engaging in a happy & healthy kindergarten experience. It was at this time that we started bi-weekly sessions for our son with Sharon. Up until this point, our son, who had been diagnosed with Dyslexia and ASD, had been beyond struggling academically and was in turn experiencing emotional distress. The pace of the PS academic curriculum was proving overwhelming and he exhibited many behavioral signs of regression. Introducing Sharon as a major support to help address his learning profile needs was immediately beneficial. I truly believe that it takes a village to raise and educate a child and am forever grateful that we’ve had Sharon on our team. She reliably delivers so many unique and thoughtful services under her professional umbrella as a Speech Pathologist. Through the application of the Orton-Gillingham method Sharon taught my son how to read. With her devotion and support he developed an ability to decode language which he actively applies to this day as an eight year old as he progresses in his reading abilities. Sharon has stuck with us through the highs and lows that come with learning and has always brought a nurturing, warm, creative and consistent approach. She’s relatable and meets you where you are. I have recommended her services to many friends who have since had their children benefit greatly for her support. She truly advocates for her students and in turn empowers their parents and caregivers in their efforts to do the same.
When my daughter was in kindergarten her teachers started early intervention in reading and writing when they realized she was further behind the rest of her class in letter identification. Soon after the interventionist started working with her she said to me that while she couldn't officially diagnose my daughter, she was sure that she was dyslexic.
I thought I had a pretty good understanding of dyslexia but after researching a bit on line it became clear I really didn't.
I quickly felt isolated while it appeared a problem other parents I knew weren't having with their kids- and couldn't relate.
I reached out to Sharon for a consult and in the first few minutes of speaking to her on the phone I felt a wave of relief and knew she was the one I needed to partner with on this journey to help my daughter with her struggles at school and her dyslexia.
Sharon has an authority on the topic and explained so much to me about what it actually is- how it works, how we can get through it with specific approaches and how she was going to help.
She became much more than a tutor for my daughter but an advocate and sounding board for me working through the school system- her IEP etc. She was always there with thoughtful advice and support.
She started seeing my daughter on line during covid twice a week. My daughter LOVED her approach and methods- she always made the lessons fun and very interactive. She got to know my daughter so well over the past year that she would create specific games using characters she knew my daughter was into at the time- and kept up top date on all of her activities and interests and always asked how her puppy was doing or what her plans were for the weekend. They developed a really nice relationship over the past year and aside from that seeing my daughters progress in reading and writing has been incredible- she has grown so much and has gained so much confidence in her reading ! I couldn't possibly recommend her more!
